FISHING FOR THE LARGEST RIVER FISHES IN THE WORLD. In Esquina, Goya,
Bella Vista, Empedrado, Paso de la Patria, Ita-Ibaté and Ituzaingó, you can
catch dorado, a very aggressive fish which can weigh up to 25 Kg, the pacú, 15
Kg, the surubí a large catfish which can weigh up to 60 Kg, and smaller fishes
from the banks of the Uruguay river. The fishing season run from March to
September. In August, the Fiesta Nacional del Dorado is celebrated in Paso de la
Patria.
LIFE ON THE ESTANCIAS. Its possible to stay at the "estancias",
such as the ones in San Gará, Atalaya and San Juan Poriahú, and others, using
them as a base for trekking, horse riding and the observation of the native
flora and fauna.
FIESTAS AND CHAMAMÉ. Numerous popular fiestas are celebrated in the region. The
carnivals in Corrientes, Esquina and Paso de los Libres. This is the land of the chamamé, an unmistakable and singular musical
rhythm, with its own National Fiesta, held in Corrientes in December.

CORRIENTES.
The capital of the province situated on the banks of the Paraná, one of the
fastest flowing rivers of Argentina, crossed here by the General Manuel Belgrano
Bridge which leads to Resistencia, the capital of Chaco. Among the ancient
monuments of the city are the church of the Santísima Cruz de los Milagros and
the convents of San Francisco and La Merced. Interesting museums: Colonial
History, Bellas Artes (Fine Arts), Franciscan, Crafts and Natural
Sciences.
THE
REMAINS OF THE JESUIT "REDUCCIONES": In La Cruz, Monte Caseros, San
Carlos and Santo Tomé.
ESTEROS
DEL IBERÁ: The "Shinning Water" of the Guaraníes. A complex
ecosystem which includes 700,000 hectares of swamps, 31,500 hectares of
lagoons and 52,000 hectares of marshes, inhabited by wild animals: turtles,
yacaré alligators, monkeys, swamp deers, carpinchos, the largest rodent in the
world, and 368 different species of birds.
Other places of interest: Yapeyú, the birthplace of General San Martín. Paso de los Libres, a town with peaceful river beaches and attractive spas. The hydro-electric dam of Yacyretá is one of the largest in the world. The Basílica Nuestra Señora de Itatí, sanctuary of the faith. Empedrado, with its imposing sandstone cliffs.

The great carnivals of Corrientes. Almost all people in the city participates. It one of the biggest carnivals in Argentina.Very colorfull.You have to see it!

Corrientes and Resistencia
These are two interesting cities. Corrientes, beside the Paraná, is
where Graham Greene set his novel "The Honorary Consul". Resistencia,
the capital of Chaco, connected to Corrientes by the General Belgrano bridge has
more than 200 hundred urban sculptures and the National Wood Carving Fair is
held here in July
